HISTORY

The history of Edgefield Baptist Church is an interesting one. It all began in 1870, directly after the Civil War, when a few Christian ex-slaves decided to organize a church. The first sermon was preached on a large rock. Later, services were held under a brush arbor approximately one hundred feet from the rock. Some years later, after the donation of an acre of land, the members built a church off of Highway 54 in Fayetteville, Georgia at the edge of a field. That is how the church received its current name, “EDGEFIELD”.

The above is only a sampling of the history of Edgefield Baptist Church. The complete history is long and rich. God is doing a great work in Edgefield. “Eyes hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.” (I Corinthians 2:9)

PHILOSOPHY

We believe there is one God eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe that the Holy Bible is God's written revelation to man, and that it is verbally inspired, authoritative, and without error in the original manuscript.

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, and death on the cross to provide for our redemption, bodily resurrection and ascension into Heaven, present ministry of intercession for us, and His return to Earth in power and glory.

We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit, that He performs the miracle of new birth in unbelievers, and indwells believers enabling them to live godly lives.

We believe that man was created in the image of God, but because of sin, was alienated from God. Only through faith, trusting in Christ alone for salvation, which was made possible by His death and resurrection, can that alienation be removed.

MISSION

We are the salt of the earth, effecting a positive change, as we let our light shine that others may see a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. Because we believe in an active faith, we seek to meet the spiritual as well as the physical needs of the people in our community. The cornerstone of our mission is to proclaim the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for kingdom building.

VISION

"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." (Mark 16:15-18)
